Battery Box Features

We have had a number of requests to buy just the Nora Battery Box, presumably for self build lamps, etc. We are going to have some more Nora boxes manufactured shortly, and we will get some extras. If you asked before, then please feel free to contact us again.

Robust, lightweight, versatile design

Battery packs can be removed, exchanged (and replaced, batteries don't last forever)

Battery pack / lamp connections internal to box (no external connectors)

Range of useful proprietory battery configurations (low cost replacement, again batteries don't last forever)

Proprietry low voltage Li-ion packs, 3.7v.

NiMh / Alkaline compatible in a practical form (3 x AA batteries)

Recesses for flexible helmet fixing with cable ties / shock cord. No rigid helmet fixing screws.

Thick wall construction to best (hopefully) avoid distortion (and leakage) at depth / pressure

Machined from solid Delrin to realise light weight with thick sections.

Better, more attractive wear resitance than thin section aluminium boxes (box invariably takes a kicking and anodise comes off).

No irritating metallic clunk clunking on cave roof.

Stainless steel toggle clasps and big section O ring to achieve and maintain water tight seal (essential for Li-ion battery packs). Can be locked by the paranoid.

Easily serviced design.

Lid connected with 40Kg Kevlar braid to avoid losing. Robust, light weight caver solution.

Externally seating thick section lid designed to take wear and tear burden, and avoid (expensive) damage to top edge of box, and innevitable leaking (characteristic of inset lid arrangements).

Low cost replacement lids if necessary.

Waterproof cable gland.

Compatible with most helmets, even the Petzl Elios (in childrens size)

Diveable, we shall see. (Dive testing is ongoing, nothing bad to report yet)

3.7v 7.8 Ah Sanyo Li-ion pack (Rude Nora V8 pack)

3 x AA (Nimh or alkaline) compatible, essential for reserve, expedition, etc.

..... or shock cord.

110v-240v AC 50/60hz li-ion mains charger and 12v DC li-ion car charger, for Rude Nora V8 and V9 battery packs. US / EU mains adapters available, or you can probably get one on ebay. We don't mind.

3.7v 2.5 Ah low cost, light weight Li-ion pack (Rude Nora V9 pack)

Recessed battery box for simple, non rigid, helmet fixing, with releasable cable ties. No rigid fixings.

Thick section external fitting lid (to protect top lip of battery box from damage and leakage associated with internally orientated lid desingns). Large O ring and 40Kg Kevlar braid (supplied) so you don't lose the lid. We have good value spares, but we will probably take the p*ss if you manage to lose your lid.

Robust Stainless steel toggle clasps to effect water tight lid seal. Easily serviced. Can be locked with Dyneema tether by the paranoid, see accessories.

However, we anticipate that this is simply a solution to a problem, that in reality doesn't exist.

Nora has now been pressure tested. 100m (11 bar). No leaks, no problems. Didn't bother testing her any deeper.
